Don’t worry though! As you will see from this selection, you can still have improved visibility without the risks of Xenon. Allow us to present to you, some of the brightest non-HID headlight bulbs currently available on the market.

To maximize visibility, it is recommended to change bulbs in pairs to ensure an even field of vision, which is why these headlight bulbs are supplied in pairs. This saves you time and money whilst ensuring you have effective and safe lights.

Quick Tips To Buy Brightest Non-HID Headlight Bulbs

Replacing bulbs in your headlights sometimes isn’t just as easy as walking into the store and picking up a box. I’ve put together a handy little buying guide so that you can make sure you get the right bulbs for your car and your needs.

Check Your Vehicle Information

Most suppliers will have a search feature on their website.  By entering the make and model of your car, along with the year of it’s manufacture, you should be able to find a selection of non-HID bulbs which will be compatible with your vehicle. If this does not work, then you can check the OEM number on your headlight assembly. You can also use the OEM number if you don’t know any part of the above information.

Consider Your Needs

There is a whole range of different bulbs produced for the aftermarket. Each offers different benefits. For example, higher quality halogen bulbs make a bigger difference to visibility at short ranges, whereas LED bulbs provide a boost to the total distance you can see clearly. Xenon bulbs improve visibility at all distances but can impact on safety so are not recommended for DIY upgrades to your headlights due to the sometimes complex adjustments you have to make to avoid causing big headaches to other road users.

LED headlights are best suited to driving cross country. The extra visibility they provide over distance helps improve your reaction time to oncoming hazards whilst minimising the chances of dazzling other drivers. In comparison, upgraded halogen bulbs are most useful when the majority of your night driving is in towns and cities. The visibility improvements of brighter halogen bulbs are most effective at close range which will help drivers see pedestrians and other road users more easily in tighter spaces.

Things to Note

  • Be Aware of Alignment

If you will be driving your vehicle in the US then you will need most of the light from your bulbs directed downward, to the right-hand side. Having a bias towards the right helps to improve the visibility of the road ahead without dazzling oncoming traffic. In countries such as the UK, which drive on the left, the opposite alignment is needed (downward, to the left-hand side) to provide this benefit.

  • ECE or SAE Certification

The SAE regulatory stamp is the most common one found on headlight bulbs in the US. This certifies that the bulb you are purchasing complies with regulations regarding glare and light intensity. However, these regulations differ from those in Europe and some other countries. If you are planning on driving your car somewhere other than the US it is worth looking for ECE certified bulbs instead. An ECE certification mark indicates that the level of glare and light intensity produced by the bulb complies with European regulations.

  • Auto Levelling and Load adjustment

This is a feature to be aware of when choosing your bulbs rather than an essential consideration. Auto Levelling means that the headlights will adjust themselves and move the beam lower when needed. However not all vehicles are able to work with this feature due to their design. If your car is compatible with this type of bulb then it is worth keeping in mind. Its useful for to account for weight fluctuation and shifts in height when the car speeds up or slows down while preventing other drivers being dazzled.

Final Note

Upgrading your headlights to brighter bulbs for efficiency, safety and long-term savings makes logical sense. The benefits for your drive (and your pocket) far out way any initial costs in money or time.

Making the upgrade to any one of the brightest non-HID headlight bulbs will enhance your night driving experience. The whiter light of improved halogen bulbs or LED conversion kits help to fight fatigue and eye strain, making your drive safer.

Better clarity and visibility of road signs and markings will remove an element of stress from your drive, as well as reducing your risk of having an accident. So take your time and look at what is best for you and your car both cosmetically and functionally so then you truly can get the best headlight bulbs that work for you.
