The 5 Best, Brightest 9005 Bulbs – HB3 Headlight Reviews 2018
A time comes when car headlights need replacing just as your house bulbs do. When that time comes, you might consider upgrading to brighter, more efficient headlights. You need to be aware that some headlights incorporate two bulbs to switch between dipped and full beam, others have the dual function built into one bulb. They are not interchangeable.
A car is wired up to take one type or the other. If your car has a two-bulb system, you must replace with a two-bulb system. If it has a single-bulb system, you must replace with a single-bulb system. Three bulb manufacturing technologies exist: Halogen bulbs, HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs and LED (Light emitting diode) bulbs.
The latter cost more to produce but last longer, have greater energy efficiency and are brighter than the other two types. LED bulbs such as the LED 9005 bulbs are those most in favor in modern cars. Let’s look at what is the brightest 9005 bulb to choose?

5 Best & Brightest 9005 Bulbs 2018 Review
1. Philips 9005 CrystalVision Ultra Upgrade Headlight Bulb
Philips, the manufacturers, are the car maker’s choice of headlamp producers, as much as 50% of the time. An original equipment quality seal testifies to this being a genuine Philips quality product which guarantees to be DOT compliant i.e. legal.
A nice little feature to these bulbs is a blue covering over the bulbs themselves. Although not noticeable at night it will give nice a blue glow during daytime driving from the sunlight being reflected.
For clear white beams which greatly improve vision and the daytime blue look, these bulbs are an excellent choice for anyone wanting to add that touch of individuality to their vehicle.
2. BEAMTECH 9005 LED Headlight Bulb, Extremely Brigh HB3 CSP Chips Conversion Kit
This Tawanese-based manufacturer claims to offer in addition to super-bright, 4000 lumens per light output, a super-long lifespan of over 30,000 hours.
This is the result of the low 25 watts used by each light, thus producing less heat than many bulbs. No fan is used or needed to keep these bulbs cool.
Ease of Installation seems to vary according to each vehicle. In some cases, simply plugging in is reported as being all that is needed. In others the retaining ring needs to be changed. Color temperature is a very white 6500 kelvin whilst each bulb outputs 4000 lumens.
3. Auxbeam LED headlights 9005 HB3 H10 9145 F-S2 Series 9005 LED Headlight Bulbs
Auxbeam, a leading American Manufacturer, claims that while providing the brightness typical of LEDs (4000 lumens per bulb) that will reflect road signs and road markings well, the bulbs are designed to simultaneously give a softness of light that does not dazzle on-coming traffic.
The bulbs have a high-speed mute fan with a high air-flow for quick cooling to help longevity, while the manufacturer Auxbeam, offer one year’s replacement warranty on any defective products.
The design of these headlight bulbs makes it that you get the bright white light instantly. The bulbs do not need to warm up to increase in brightness which makes them ideal if you’re late for that dinner date.
4. Calais Extremely Bright LED 9005 HB3 COB Chips 30W Yellow Color LED Fog Lights Bulbs
Made in Hong Kong, these Calais Extremely bright LED lights claim even higher longevity than many others up to 50,000 hours.
They ascribe this to the quality of aircraft aluminum used in manufacture combined with high standards of waterproofing and shock proofing.
Color temperature veers to the yellow, which customers tend to find pleasing. Installation is as simple and convenient as plugging them in.
There is a good two-year warranty on these bulbs and they come with the added security of having a 360-degree beam so that no part of the road ahead is unseen at night. Making yourself and others safe and secure.
5. SNGL Super Bright LED Headlight Conversion Kit - Adjustable-Beam Bulbs
Pumping 6200 lumens per bulb, this is probably the brightest LED headlights available. It could well be the brightest 9005 bulb on the market.
There is an SNGL which is an “Intelligent Constant cooling system” for top light quality and a brightness that is consistent. The LED drivers have fan failure and overheat protection.
Color temperature is a clear white 6000K with a focused light pattern and 6200 lumens per bulb. It claims to be up to 260% brighter on the road without causing glare and that seem remarkable. Good brightness makes such a difference when driving on wet wintery nights.
A two-year warranty is offered which in itself expresses a confidence on the part of the manufacturer as to the quality of the product.
So how do you choose which is the best 9005 bulb for you?
First and foremost, you want reliability from the bulb while you also want to be sure your headlights are completely road legal.
There are many on the market that are not. Going for a well-known, reputable, brand increases your chances on both those counts. Philips with its “Original equipment quality seal” is promising on that score. Auxbeam is a leading American manufacturer. SNGL seems to elicit remarkable feedback.
Warranty A long warranty period is appealing and above all aids confidence. However, most manufacturers are going to give at least one year’s warranty and at the most two. So, warranty is not the big issue.
Light quality There are two measures of light quality – the color temperature measured in kelvin and the brightness measured in lumens. A white color temperature will be 6000k or 6500k. In noting the lumens, read carefully if they are being quoted for a pack of two or per bulb. Top end of the range would be 6000 or 6200 lumens per bulb (as with the SNGL bulb).
Price: Price is obviously important. For the lucky few, money will be no object. Those people will simply want the best 9005 bulb on the market, although the most expensive does not always mean that it the best in quality and reliability. Other people will be more price-conscious. A typical kit price will be in the 20 to 35-dollar range, a big difference from the top end of the LED range costing nearly $200.
How do you install your LED 9005 bulb?
In most cases it is simply a matter of unscrewing the lens cover, taking out the old bulb and pushing in the new one. However, some cars will need a new ring adapter or a conversion kit to make sure that they will work properly with your cars electrical system.
Well there is a little more to it than that sometimes. You may be able to adjust the beam pattern, you will need to connect your bulb to the LED driver, you will need to connect the LED driver to the stop plug. The exact procedure will vary according to the kit, but they will all contain everything you need including an Allen key, if one is to be used, and detailed instructions.
A word of warning when installing Led bulbs. Never touch the bulb with your fingers bare skin. Grease can come off your skin and in turn will cloud the bulb. Should you accidentally touch the bulb wipe it with a dry cloth or some tissue paper.
Some bulbs will allow you to adjust the beam pattern. Where you can adjust it, a small Allen key will be included. There will be one or two little holes (check your instructions for where). All you will have to do is insert the Allen key and loosen the fixing, place the bulb into the holder and turn to adjust the beam pattern to the optimum position for you. You will also need to connect the bulb to the LED driver and finally the driver to the stop plug on the car body. Make sure all the connections are fitted properly so that moisture cannot get into your electrical system.
Incidentally should you wonder why all the bulbs are sold in pairs, it is because it is best to always fit a bulb on both sides when replacing one, otherwise the brightness and color of the two bulbs will not match.
It is all down to what you can afford. To my mind the SNGL is undoubtedly the best 9005 bulb out there. If money was not an issue that is without any shadow of doubt the one I would choose. However, I am sure economics would come into the equation.
I would probably settle for the Auxbeam LED headlights. I like the sound of the softened light coupled with 4000 lumens output. It is not the very cheapest of the offerings, but it is still pretty well priced. Otherwise I might be tempted by the Philips brand name and go for the Philips 9005 Crystal vision.
